Finding Grammars That Are More Than Context-Free, But Not Fully Context-Sensitive

چکیده

This survey paper describes several extensions of context-free grammars as defined in the Chomsky hierarchy. These augmentations use a variety of different strategies to create grammars that generate all context-free and some context-sensitive languages. The basic concepts of each of these extensions will be examined, as well as whether the enhanced grammars inherited some of the desirable properties normally associated with contextfree grammars. In addition, a brief examination of non-Chomsky-related augmentations is included to show that the definition of “extension” is open to interpretation.

Studying impressive parameters on the performance of Persian probabilistic context free grammar parser

In linguistics, a tree bank is a parsed text corpus that annotates syntactic or semantic sentence structure. The exploitation of tree bank data has been important ever since the first large-scale tree bank, The Penn Treebank, was published. However, although originating in computational linguistics, the value of tree bank is becoming more widely appreciated in linguistics research as a whole. F...

Inferring Grammars for Mildly Context Sensitive Languages in Polynomial-Time

Natural languages contain regular, context-free, and contextsensitive syntactic constructions, yet none of these classes of formal languages can be identified in the limit from positive examples. Mildly context-sensitive languages are able to represent some context-sensitive constructions, those most common in natural languages, such as multiple agreement, crossed agreement, and duplication. Th...

Table-driven and context-sensitive collage languages

In this paper, we introduce the notions of context-sensitive and TOL collage grammars as generalizations of context-free collage grammars. Both kinds of picture generating devices are more powerful than the context-free case. Nevertheless, the sizes of collages in a TOL collage language can be shown to grow at most exponentially. In contrast to this, there are no such bounds for context-sensiti...

Two Power-Decreasing Derivation Restrictions in Generalized Scattered Context Grammars

The present paper introduces and discusses generalized scattered context grammars that are based upon sequences of productions whose left-hand sides are formed by nonterminal strings, not just single nonterminals. It places two restrictions on the derivations in these grammars. More specifically, let k be a positive integer. The first restriction requires that all rewritten symbols occur within...

Copying in Natural Languages, Context-Freeness, and Queue Grammars

The documentation of (unbounded-len~h) copying and cross-serial constructions in a few languages in the recent literature is usually taken to mean that natural languages are slightly context-sensitive. However, this ignores those copying constructions which, while productive, cannot be easily shown to apply to infinite sublanguages. To allow such finite copying constructions to be taken into ac...
